Brady Emergency Care
Published in Hardcover by Brady Games (January, 1998)
Authors: Michael F. O'Keefe, Daniel Limmer, Harvey D. Grant, Robert H., Jr. Murray, and J. David Bergeron
Average review score:

Excellent reference for the EMT-B
Excellent book, and extremely informative; I just completed the EMT-Basic course and the National Registry exam. The book was a wonderful source of knowledge, and reference. What I would like to see is perhaps a cheaper, paperback version of the book come out; we completed the course and had to return the book, and I just think that if it was more accessible, more students would have purchased it, instead of signing it out.

The Best so Far!
As a future EMT-B student I wanted to buy some books prior to my course beginning. I bought Mosby's, Aehlert's, and Brady's books. I finally got to this one (being the last I was to read), and have to say this is the best Ive seen so far. With clear concise text, and abundance of knowledge, real life situations, and amazing pictures (which Aehlert's has almost none of), I must say that this book is not only the most informative, but is also the most user friendly. It has a great index, glossary, and the anatomy pictures are cut outs of REAL humans. I mean it just doesn't get any better than this. I just found out a few days ago this is the book my instructor is going to use, and for a good reason!

This EMT book is the best, hands down.
This EMT Emergency book ROCKS! As an EMT student, I find this book to surpass all other EMT books in print. The whole class loves the book as well. I recommend getting the, self study Workbook that accompanies the textbook. Without a doubt, it wins a Gold Metal and a Five Star Award for outstanding publication and instruction into the field of the EMT - Basic.

More Towels: In Between the Notes
Published in Paperback by Writers Club Press (August, 2002)
Author: Grant Jarrett
Average review score:

Hilarious and refreshingly honest!!!
This is without a doubt one of the funniest and most engaging books I've ever read. And it is incredibly well written. Jarrett bares his tortured soul and confesses his considerable weaknesses with refreshing honesty and without a hint of self pity. No whining, no blaming, just the truth served up with plenty of spice and a bracing wit. There are belly laughs throughout the book and there is a real heart beating at its center. Five shining stars.

Unforgivably funny!
It seems quite possible that Grant Jarrett is completely insane; if not, he certainly has, or had, his share of "issues." He has behaved deplorably and acted out in ways most of us would be too proper (or too frightened) to consider. And he is filled with angst and anger. The good news is that his pain is the reader's considerable gain. He has taken what he seems to view as twenty wasted years and made something of value out of them - More Towels. I hope he enjoyed writing this book as much as I enjoyed reading it. And I hope he's grown up, at least a little. If not, somebody better guard the womenfolk.

Perfect pitch, but don't read this with food in your mouth!
I don't know if Grant Jarrett was a talented drummer or not, but he certainly shines as a writer and humorist. His comic timing is phenomenal and, in spite of his sometimes awful behavior, he touches your heart. Jarrett lets you see what most people would never share and he makes you laugh at his weakness and desperation (and at everyone around him). There isn't a chapter that won't make you laugh out loud. This book is a work of genius, a rare find in a sea of mediocroty.

Grant Writing : Strategies for Developing Winning Proposals
Published in Paperback by Patrick W. Miller and Associates (01 July, 2000)
Author: Patrick W. Miller
Average review score:

A Must Have Book for Any Grant Writer
Patrick W. Miller has written an excellent book for anyone who wants to write a successful grant proposal. Grant Writing: Strategies for Developing Winning Proposals is full of useful information and is organized in the most effective way for the aspiring grant writer.

One strength of the book is its focus on having the reader LEARN grant writing. The first time grant writer can use the book to guide her/him step by step through the process and that is good, but Grant Writing enables the grant writer to understand fully the ins and outs of the process.

Patrick Miller has extensive experience as a grant writer, so what he has in Grant Writing comes after having written dozens of funded grant proposals.

Grant Writing is a must book to have for anyone who wants to write winning proposals.

Grant Writing Strategies
Miller's second edition systematically covers the entire competitive grant writing process from identifying funding sources to the planning that organizations must undertake before making applications to the writing of actual proposals to following up after submissions. He goes beyond the mechanics in each section, providing advice as to key factors to be considered at each stage of the process.

Numerous exhibits will help the reader, particularly the new grant writer, in planning and preparing applications. For example, a planning chapter includes exhibits that advise how to structure requests for information from funding sources and how to obtain copies of previous winning proposals. Other chapters provide numerous samples and explanations of the various parts of a grant proposal, with an entire chapter devoted to budget preparation.

The authur includes a glossary, list of additional resources, and exercises with each chapter. The exercise solutions illustrate good planning practices and model proposal outlines, cover letters, and proposals. Individuals responsible for grant writing may find this a good text for workshops held for administrators and professionals within their organizations.

A "must-have" resource for the novice grant writer
Now in a substantially revised and thoroughly updated second edition, Grant Writing: Strategies For Developing Winning Proposals by Patrick W. Miller (a national grant reviewer and panel leader for the United States Department of Education) is an superbly presented, comprehensive, highly accessible resource for crafting eye-catching, professional-quality grant applications. Individual chapters address how to quickly and efficiently gather the necessary information, writing and editing concise and persuasive text, properly preparing a budget, what should be done after the submission is made, and much more. Especially recommended for the non-specialist general reader, Grant Writing's eight chapters of clear methods for developing grant applications is enhanced with 75 illustrations and examples, 130 review questions designed to stimulate mastering the information, 13 exercises on proposal writing and budget development, 95 quick reference glossary terms, and contemporary resources (including web sites). This is a "must-have" resource for the novice grant writer as well as being an invaluable continuing reference work for even the more experienced grant writing applicant.

Half-Life (DC): Prima's Official Strategy Guide

Authors: Joseph Bell and Joe Grant Bell
Average review score:

This book is great and it will show you everything!
There is NOTHING that this book does not show you, it will guide you through the game step by step. This book will show you stategies and give you tips on how to easily beat your enemy. I would recommend this book even if you are not having trouble with the game because it shows important tips that can be easily overlooked.

A book loaded with tips!
This book has many helpful hints and cool pictures! If you buy Half Life you are lost without this book! The game is also very neat so if you buy the game you need this Book! Don't wait buy it now!

If this is not a survival guide , then nothing else is...
Half-Life is a huge game (H-L players already know that!).Dis-orientation is likely to happen and does happen unless you have this guide. Prima has done it once more! The walkthroughts are accurate and easy (or so) to follow even for the novice player of such games . Advanced players though should only use it only when the going gets tough .After all what mostly this book achieves is that it is a non player-level dependent guide.

Contact
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Love Spell (October, 2002)
Author: Susan Grant
Average review score:

WOW! Susan Grant does it again!
This book blasts off right from the start. I even read several parts of the book to my son (he loves Star Wars, etc.)ex:
"The object rushed out of the darkness. St. Elmo's fire slithered along the oval's smooth edges. Framed in blue-white streamers of electricity, the object yawned open like a nightmarish Venus flytrap. At five hundred knots, United 58 hurtled toward its shadowy maw. Jordan's thoughts bogged down in disbelief. Whatever was out there, they were going to hit it head on. Death would be instant."
My son immediately wanted to read it until I explained that it was a romance. I even told my husband some of the plot.
The heat between Jordan and Kao is so yummy because there are real feelings involved, understanding, tenderness, respect and love. Two very strong people fighting for more than their lives-I could not put this book down.
Susan Grant hooked me with "The Star King" and "The Star Prince" (which I'm still hoping to read at least one more in that story) and I've added her to my favorite authors list.
Contact has a permanent place on my book shelf. Just can't say enough without giving away too many details.
I know I sound over the top, just read it.

Outstanding! Highly Recommended
I just finished CONTACT by Susan Grant last night and I have to tell you --
it is spectacular. From the first page to the last, it is full of emotion.
Add just the right blend of romance, mystery, and adventure and you have
one of the best reads of the year.

Although this is definitely a science fiction romance, it isn't a futuristic
instead taking place in present day. Jordan Cady is a pilot for United
(like Sue herself) and widowed mother of a young daughter when the plane she
is co-piloting is swallowed up by an alien aircraft. The aliens are
actually part of the human race, albeit highly sophisticated. When the
passengers are told that earth has been destroyed by a comet, the alien
spaceship in fact rescuing them, they feel a mixture of shock, grief, and
relief.

Chosen as a spokesperson for the "rescuers" is Kao, the adopted son of their
leader. And, this being a romance, after all, Jordan and Kao "click" with
several pretty steamy scenes .

References to 9/11 make an impact on the reader and the story takes a lot of
twists in turns, really showing Grant's talents as one of the one of
romances new stars. The growth in her writing after just four books is
remarkable -- given that even her first book was oustanding.

I am not a sci-fi reader, in fact, other than books by Grant and Catherine
Asaro, have not read others in this genre. So, I have to recommend this
book for not only sci-fi fans but those who just want a well-written,
compelling read. This one got me out of a mini reading slump and I finished
in just two days (very busy days at that).

A PERFECT 10
**A Perfect 10**

Susan Grant's splendid visual imagery, natural dialogue and superb characterization combine to make the impossible not only possible, but plausible in her latest book, CONTACT.  The mental and emotional turmoil Jordan and Kao endure will wring your emotions and touch your heart.  Keep a box of tissues handy.  Trust me.  Even those who never cry over books will find themselves teary-eyed.

I don't believe in alien life on other planets, but I enjoy sci-fi romance.  In fact, my all time favorite book is WARRIOR'S WOMAN by Johanna Lindsey.  As much as I love that book, however, it's just fantasy.  CONTACT affected me in a way I never expected, for while I read it, it WAS real.  Things I accepted as absolute truth before I began reading melted away, just as they did for the passengers of United 58.  Ms Grant displays wisdom by not allowing the passengers to presume alien abduction.  Instead, they believe themselves victims of a terrorist hijacking, a much more believable scenario.  Only later do they realize the truth, yet even then they do not passively accept their fate.  They are Americans and struggle to hold onto as much of their way of life as possible, which is what I would expect.  Some readers may not like the fact that a number of passengers wanted a male leader, rather than Jordan, feeling it sexist.  But I applaud the author for not following the politically correct path.  Yes, it was sexist of those members to prefer a male over a female, but in that same scenario I'd have wanted a strong male too, if available.  Sue me.  I don't think it showed a lack of respect for Jordan.  On the contrary, they respected her a great deal.  Still, it's normal to seek comfort and need security when life turns upside down, and their desire for a strong, male leader was simply an attempt to gain that extra feeling of security.  Wrong?  Maybe.  But entirely human.

I haven't written much about the poignant romance, delved into the complex motivations that drive Jordan and Kao, the painful conflicts between them, or the destructive forces that threaten all they hold dear, and those alone would make this book a keeper.  However, it's Ms Grant's ability to place the reader into the story as if a participant, rather than just an observer, and to make one accept the possibility, even if only for a moment, that will leave you breathless.

For a story that will make you feel, make you think, make you believe, don't miss CONTACT.

The Railway Children
Published in Audio Cassette by Naxos Audio Books (June, 1996)
Authors: Eve Karpf, Delia Paton, Robert Benfield, Sarah Corbett, Thomas Martin, Nicola Grant, and Edith Nesbit
Average review score:

An Enticing yet Un-magical Book
I really enjoy Ms. Nesbit's written works. It is quite a shame that she can't write anymore. Although I liked this one a lot, I was a little disappointed by it because it lacked the charming fairy tale sort of feel that many of her children's books have. However, the story was quite wonderful, and I particularly loved the realistic scene of the children that the reader is given. I highly recommend this book to Edith Nesbit's fans, as well as people that enjoy a touch of mystery, mixed with a child's view of life.

the railway children is a 9 out of 10 book!
I like the Railway Children a lot, especially how the author told the story. I liked Bobbie because there is something different about her,she was helpful and sweet at the same time. I am wondering where the dog James went? Other than that, the story was great!

What happened toJames
I remember in The Railway Children that Bobbie, Peter and Phylls had a dog named James. I was wondering, what ever happened to James? In the book Phyllis is the best person to me because she is accident prone. In the story the kids lives change a lot from the city to the country. They make new friends on the railway. It was a great book. I still wonder..."What happened to James...."

Notting Hill
Published in Paperback by Trafalgar Square (May, 1999)
Authors: Richard Curtis, Clive Coote, Trevor Flynn, and Hugh Grant
Average review score:

Good Quality
All dialogs and many pictures of the movie are in this book. Pictures are dependent on the dialog contents. Besides, there are the scenes cut before the film release for shortening the original length of the film (and interviews with director and the actors). If you like the film very much, and would like to see it again and again- and may have trouble in listening English as a foreigner like me -; this is a good source to put it near its DVD version into your library.

Smile your way through the Script
I enjoyed the movie greatly, but it was reading the script which really made me appreciate the sheer genius behind it all. Kudos to Richard Curtis! It is amazing how much he manages to get into a scene - everything WORKS, to tug at the heart strings or strike the funny bone.

The script reveals a few of the artistic choices that had to be made in the process of creating the script and the movie; however, this is a very polished end product - definately a last draft (with a few choice bits of scenes that did not make the cut at the end) and perfectly co-ordinated with film stills and photographs, all on luxurious glossy paper.

However, it is amazing how, having watched the film and knowing the charactrers, it is possible to visualise scenes in your head while reading the script - an especial plus for the left out scenes. I am now dying to compare my imagination with the director's cut, which I have been told might be available on the DVD version.

If you liked the movie, you have to buy this book
I saw the preview of the movie a few weeks ago, and when I saw this on the shelf of my local bookstore, I just had to have it. The quality of this book is excellent for the price you pay. This edition is similar to the Four Weddings and a Funeral screenplay published a few years ago by Corgi Books (unfortunately no longer available - not to be confused with the lower quality St. Martin edition) printed on high quality paper. The full colour photographs bring the script to life as you read it. If you enjoyed the film, BUY THIS BOOK!

Better Than Life
Published in Mass Market Paperback by New American Library (May, 1996)
Author: Grant Naylor
Average review score:

A little brother to "Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers".
Following the success of its prequel, Better Than Life charts the four crewmen of Red Dwarf through their deepest and most amusing fantasies. Although very funny, and further enhanced in places by an almost Quentin-Tarantino-esque plot line, this book is neither as comic nor as credible as its precursor. This is due in part to the fact that the first half of the book is a pure fantasy within a fantasy, and real laws of existence are totally disregarded, and also to the fact that almost none of the book even vaguely relates to the series, without which there would have been no Red Dwarf cult following anyway. Certainly, BTL is original and amusing, but hard-core Dwarfies will become somewhat confused over its frequent departures from the plot.

BEST SMEGGIN RED DWARF BOOK EVER
this book goes so fast. i read it in an hour, but i was laughing for days afterwards. it is great. really. rimmer, lister, cat, holly, kryten(hate him), and talkie toaster all magnified times 300x!

The sequal to the best book in the world
If you read Infinety Welcomes Careful Drivers then get ready for the return of RED DWARF. In this instalment get ready for more of the best parts from the series but even more original plot lines that take the crew from an addictive game to......I don't want to spoil it for you. Pick it up today.

Winning Grants Step by Step (Jossey-Bass Nonprofit Sector Series)
Published in Paperback by Jossey-Bass (October, 1995)
Authors: Mim Carlson and Support Centers of America
Average review score:

For beginners
Mim Carlson's "Winning Grants" provides an excellent overview of what steps to follow when seeking foundation funding. It provides a fair amount of general information that will be useful for readers who lack proposal writing experience. Unfortunately, the book suffers from being a bit too general in its approach. The author attempts to cover both private and public grant writing, but the overlap between these two areas is not great enough to justify lumping them together. My only other complaint is that an index is not included.

Straightforward - great for beginners and experts alike
I have been writing grant proposals since 1986. We can all use pointers and this book has tools for everyone. I use it to get over a writer's block or find a new way to present information. I have also used it to teach a Proposal Writing class. The students found it very useful for beginners. There are so many books on this subject and I find this to be one of the most useful and a great value.

Concise yet detailed, recommended
This book packs the punch in 128 pages. After browsing the Web for many, many, many hours finding this book was a pleasant surprise. The key strength of this book is that it does not drag on a lengthy discussion on finding sources of funding for a long time---many of us in Academia already know who we expect to get funded through! If what you're looking for is detailed guidance on actually shaping the research grant proposal (something I'd never done before), look no further. This book is very well written, to the point, and exemplifies good, concise writing. highly recommended!

Cary Grant
Published in Hardcover by Columbia University Press (15 April, 1997)
Author: Graham McCann
Average review score:

A good book for a great man
Though I've seen quite a few of Cary Grant's movies, this is the first biography on him that I've read. I was quite impressed with the book. Since I had seen tv documentaries and read a little about Cary on the internet, I was familiar with his life but this helped flesh out the details. Cary Grant's rise to stardom is probably one of the most unlikely and fascinating stories of Hollywood. As a young boy (age 9) his mother was suddenly taken from him and Cary was left to assume that she'd died or abandoned him. As any psychologist can tell you, this would be a huge impact on anybody's life. The rest of the story, Archie Leach (CG's real name) turning into Cary Grant is interesting and the anecdotes related throughout the book give a good sense of Cary's character. He is shown to be a caring, private, and humorous man in real life as he was on the screen. He had his troubles as well and this book deals with those excellently. It doesn't gloss over bad parts in Grant's life. I would have appreciated more stories illustrating Grant's character and more background on his marriages (the author states the facts about how he met his wives, when they were married, and when they were divorced, but not much more). All in all, it is an excellent biography, not the sleazy type at all, and a fitting tribute to one of the greatest actor's the world has known. I plan on reading more about the fascinating life of Cary Grant.

A genuine classic.
This is an exemplary biography by any standards. It is incredibly thorough, insightful and engaging, and the author writes with the same kind of grace, wit and elegance as his subject. This is a beautiful, stylish, special book that you will want to read,re-read,consult,study,discuss,display and cherish.

The definitive biography.
This is a book that is just like its subject:intelligent, elegant, entertaining, stylish and charming.Read it,display it and treasure it!
